Love The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway but want a new take on it? Elevator Repair Service, a theater company based out of Brooklyn, has been working on a theatrical production of the classic 20th century novel for the past few years, and it is debuting in New York later this month. And there’s more, the experimental theater group is doing something with the piece it hasn’t done before. It’s adapting the text. For the last several years, Elevator Repair Service has gained recognition for it’s theatrical performances of several other novels, including The Great Gatsby and The Sound and the Fury, but previously, the company has not altered the text of the novels they’ve performed at all.

Ever wonder how long it takes to read the entirety of The Great Gatsby aloud? Ask John Collins, the founder and artistic director of Elevator Repair Service. We did.

Check it out.

“The Select” opens at the New York Theater Workshop later this month.
